don't be a Stranger(?)

well today would be the "start" of NTU's school term--even though i'm told they don't actually have classes yet LOL.

Right. so i decided to make a list on the things you should (or shouldn't) do when you are trying to meet new friends^^

Let's go:


1. Sit two seats away from the person and stare at them until they come over and talk to you. (this might also result in the person thinking you're a freak and moving even further AWAY from you... so heh try another person?)



2. Smile^^ the other person is probably as scared as you are, so be friendly! they'll welcome it (especially since singaporeans are so... LOL they don't like to be the first to start conversations. BUT everyone like friendly people! JUST DON'T BE TOO FRIENDLY. CAUSE IT'S WEIRD. )



3. Catch someone's eye, this works best when the person is right next to you, and just start talking! if you act like it's natural, NO ONE WILL QUESTION YOU. you could discuss how boring the lecture is, how hard the readings are, how horrible the professor's accent is... any common subject! (but if the person is ignoring you, DO NOT PROD THEM TO GET THEIR ATTENTION! YOU ARE NOT E.T. AND YOU DO NOT HAVE MAGIC FINGERS^^)



4. f you see them falling asleep, offer them candy! everyone loves sweets~ (those who don't are just being assholes^^) hopefully, you can start a conversation from there!



5. Share your book (and knowledge, if they ask you questions) DON'T BE A SELFISH PRICK!

but this is just from my 1month experience (after 8months of being a hermit) at making friends in NUS. i haven't really found like SUPER KHAKIS yet. but you know~ every tutorial and lecture, at least you get a group of friends to sit with!
